KNCV Nigeria won the Cepheid Make it Happen Award for their Wellness on Wheels (WoW) project. This price is awarded to outstanding projects with a big impact. The WoW trucks met all five key considerations for judges and came out on top.
WoW trucks are mobile health clinics that are able to reach people in remote areas with low access to health care. Originally the WoW truck was solely used as a tuberculosis (TB) intervention. But because of the COVID pandemic, it was made possible to screen and diagnose both TB and COVID.
The truck is equipped with 2 units of 4 modular GeneXpert instruments, Digital X-ray machine with artificial intelligence – CAD4TB. All components are powered by solar inverters and a backup power generator. The WoW team consists of the ACF Coordinator, a radiographer, medical laboratory personnel, truck driver and ad-hoc staff.
The Award was presented by Rika Dutau from EMEA Commercial Operations and James Beckett from Business Unit Point-of-Care/Alternate Site. Award participants include the Executive Director KNCV International Dr. Mustapha Gidado, KNCV HQ team, and the Executive Director KNCV Nigeria Dr. Bethrand Odume along with the KNCV Cepheid Project Coordinator, Prisca Ajiboye, and the WoW Truck team.
