ReACT Asia Pacific Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) – August 202

On August 21st and 22nd, the ReACT Asia Pacific Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) took place in Jakarta under the theme Unifying voices of the Region on addressing AMR.
The ReACT Asia Pacific Conference on AMR served as a critical platform for addressing the growing threat of AMR in the region. The conference aimed to foster collaboration and drive actionable solutions to combat AMR by bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
As the world prepares for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting (UNGA HLM) on AMR 2024, this conference has built significant momentum by raising awareness, sharing best practices, and advocating for stronger global commitments.

KNCV’s colleague and tuberculosis (TB) expert, Dr. Vijayashree Yellappa, participated of this conference and took part of a panel discussion, bringing a wealth of knowledge on the TB prevention and care strategies aligning with the overall goal to tackle AMR. During the panel discussion, Dr. Yellappa recognized the key role that communities play in implementing sustainable and effective strategies to tackle infectious diseases and the impact of actively involving every actor of the care cascade in reducing the burden of AMR and infectious diseases locally, regionally and globally.

The discussions and outcomes from this conference are expected to contribute to shaping the agenda and ensuring that AMR remains a top priority at the UNGA HLM 2024, ultimately pushing for coordinated international efforts and concrete actions to tackle this urgent global health challenge.

KNCV has been fighting TB since its establishment in 1903. Over the past 120 years, the organization has acquired indispensable knowledge and experience in the field of effective TB prevention and care, resulting in pre-elimination in the Netherlands and significant contributions to global evidence generation, policy development and TB program implementation worldwide.
