Why global health, pandemic preparedness and gender equality should be part of the Dutch political agenda

Today starts Advocacy week! A week in which KNCV, together with its partners, emphasizes the importance of the role of the Netherlands in the areas of global health, pandemic preparedness, TB Prevention & Care, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)

We will share updates on social media throughout the week, highlight activities and bring attention to why it is so essential that Dutch support for global health and SRHR continues – both for the world and the Netherlands itself.

One of the key moments this week will be the launch of the Multi-Party Initiative (MPI) on Friday, October 4. Here, Dutch MPs will officially support efforts to keep global health, pandemic preparedness and SRHR on the agenda.

The MPI is an informal group of Dutch MPs who will jointly support Dutch international efforts in the field of SRHR and global health. This initiative is committed to ensuring that the Netherlands continues to play an important role within the landscape of global pandemic preparedness and the growing threat of AMR. Moreover, it strengthens the role of the Netherlands as a world leader in the field of SRHR and global health.

The MPI is hosted by the SRHR platform and the Dutch Global Health Alliance (DGHA), and focuses on:
• Pandemic preparedness: Dutch leadership strengthening local and global expertise on infectious diseases, improving international coordination, and ensuring rapid response capabilities to address future pandemics and other cross-border threats.
• AMR: Spearheading the development of innovative solutions for early diagnosis and adequate and timely treatment of infectious diseases and advocating for responsible antibiotics’ use to prevent the escalating threat of drug-resistant infections.
• SRHR: Expanding access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare, promoting gender equality, and ensuring the protection of SRHR across the Netherlands, setting the example for health systems around the world.
• Global health: Fostering an inclusive and resilient health system in the Netherlands that ensures universal healthcare access, while promoting international partnerships to achieve long-term global health security.
This initiative aligns with the Netherlands’ broader commitment to Health for All, advancing both global health and economic resilience by strengthening healthcare infrastructures and promoting health rights.
